Autumn Term 2023

This term, our topic is 'The Magna Carta' - in which we will investigate history that lead to the signing of the Magna Carta, the importance of its contents and its implications on modern day life both nationally and internationally.

Homework

Homework will usually be set on Wednesday and is expected to be in by the following Monday . I will be available to help children with homework during lunch times. Homework sheets will given to the children.

Homework will usually consist of:

  • maths - practise questions which consolidate previous maths learning
  • English - usually a piece of writing in a style of the children own choice, inspired by our current topic or a current topical subject

Morning Maths

All Year 5 and 6 children are encouraged to attend 'Maths Maths' sessions, which takes place on a Tuesday and Thursday from 08:10am.  This club is free and is designed to be an additional session where mental and oral maths learning takes place.  The emphasis is on developing skills, accuracy and speed for mental calculations which supports formal written calculations.  If you are interested, please see Mrs Gemmell or Mr Friend.

PE

PE is on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Children need to wear their PE kit to school on these days and warm clothing may be required as often we do PE outdoors even in cold weather.  A 'beanie hat', fleece jumper, tracksuit bottoms or leggings and fingerless gloves may be useful. No jewellery please.
