Forest School at Bamford Primary School

Our Forest School programme brings learning to life in the great outdoors. Running from September to December and again from March to July, it offers children regular opportunities to explore, discover, and grow in a natural woodland environment. The sessions are designed primarily for EYFS and Key Stage 1, with selected opportunities for Key Stage 2 pupils to take part as well.
Led by Mrs Coulson, our fully qualified Forest School Lead, the programme encourages children to develop confidence, independence, and a deep connection with nature. Her expertise ensures that every session is safe, engaging, and thoughtfully planned to support children’s development across the curriculum.
What Children Gain from Forest School
  • Confidence and resilience through hands-on challenges and problem‑solving
  • Communication and teamwork skills as they collaborate on outdoor tasks
  • Physical development from climbing, balancing, building, and exploring
  • Creativity and imagination inspired by natural materials and open‑ended play
  • Emotional wellbeing supported by time in nature, fresh air, and freedom to explore
  • Environmental awareness as children learn to care for the world around them
Forest School is a place where curiosity is encouraged, muddy hands are celebrated, and every child can shine in their own way. It’s an important part of our school’s commitment to nurturing happy, confident learners who feel connected to their environment.
