At Bamford Primary we are proud to present many opportunities for children to try out new experiences and activities. There are many options to consider.
We offer a wide variety of clubs after and before school. These options change from time to time so it is a good idea to keep an eye out for new clubs. All clubs must be booked via the school office.
Additionally, there is a minibus which transports children to PEAK TIME - an afterschool club attended by children from many of the Hope Valley Schools. They provide childcare every night until 6.00 pm.
Our range of musical instrument tuition continues to expand and we now can offer lessons in the following:
Choir - Sue Firth (school club)
Wind (flute / clarinet / saxophone)
Clarinet (Schools Music Partnership - All Y3/Y4/Y5/Y6)
Additioanally, class Ash and Willow both receive dedicated music lessons with Mrs Taylor, a music specialist.
Helen Rutter, a professional actress / comedienne runs our drama club on Monday nights (15:30 - 16:30) which is open to Juniors and on Tuesday nights (15.30-16.15) for Reception, Y1 and Y2. She has also worked in school with children to explore the important theme of Anti-Bullying (Spring 2015). Helen also runs an older group for children Y7 upwards (16:30 - 17:30).
Mrs Gemmell runs a homework club on Friday nights 15:30 -16:30. This club is available to all children Y1 - Y6 and is a quiet space for learning. Children are invited to bring along their homework where they can complete it in a supported envrionment. The club also offers an opportunity for children to ask for additional help with any aspect of their learning. For many, this is an ideal chance to complete homework prior to busy weekends.
Morning maths club is specifically for Y5 and Y6 children and provides additional support and learning time for developing mental mathematics skills, including times tables and arithmetic skills. It is run by Mrs Gemmell.
We currently offer three sports clubs one of which is run by ExtraTime. These are Netball (Wednesday 15:30 - 16:30) and Extra Times' Multi-sports (Thursday 15:30 - 16:30) and Running Club (Wednesday lunchtime 12:00 - 12:35), one for Infants and one for Juniors.
We have a well attended breakfast club which is run daily from 07:45 - 08:45. Please see the separate page for breakfast club news.
This is a club where small groups of children look at healthy eating and cooking, Mrs Riley and Mrs Nicolaou follow a carefully structured, age appropriate programme which helps children to explore where food comes from, try out new tastes and textures and encourages the children to cook food from scratch. This will hopefully extend to growing foods in the late spring and summer months.
We are very grateful to Mrs Riley and Mrs Nicolaou for providing this really important addition to our Healthy Schools programme which Mrs Chapman and the Student Council are leading. In the Autumn Term, our Y4 Y5 and Y6 children were able to from the Derbyshire County Council 560 Programme, again aimed at helping children develop healthy habits for life.
We believe that children benefit from being provided with opportunities to participate in many different clubs and aim to run a variety of clubs throughout the year. These take place at lunchtimes and before or after school. The list changes throughout the year, so please keep an eye out for further information.
